In the spring and fall, all are welcome to come find clean, useable clothing for men, women, children, and infants as well as shoes, toys, books, small household items, etc. St. Paul Parish has hosted this free clothing share for over 30 years. Donations are appreciated, but it is not necessary to bring something in to take something that is needed.
A team of volunteers sort, fold, and distribute the items to labeled tables. Left over items are sent to local agencies such as St. Vincent de Paul in Waukesha and Casa Maria. Contact Jerie Roder at 262-968-3474 for more information.
Near the beginning of Advent each year, our parishioners choose angel or star ornaments and then purchase and return gifts to make someone's Christmas a little brighter. Angels represent a gift for a specific person, stars include items to support various organizations' outreach. The great thing about this ministry is that everyone can participate due to the dollar range of gifts represented on the Giving Tree. Hundreds of ornaments are chosen by our parishioners each year. When the gifts are returned, the sorting area is something to see! The agencies are most grateful for the generosity of our parish. Here are a few notes from recipients at one of the agencies:
Thank you so much for all the gifts and for thinking of us this holiday season. Thank every one so very much, the kids loved their presents. I really appreciate your help this Christmas, my son was ecstatic! Thank you so much for the books, she loves them so much she cannot stop reading them, you made her Christmas so special. I'd like to thank you for all of the wonderful Christmas gifts this year, my son has been enjoying and playing with the puzzles and books almost every day. My children and I loved our gifts and appreciate them very much!
Preparations are begun in July when the 13 agencies are contacted for their needs. Besides purchasing gifts, parish volunteers cut out the angels and stars, apply the stickers detailing the needs, contact the drivers, and sort, load, and deliver the gifts. If you would like to be involved, contact Sharon Rehnberg, 262-547-3668.
From cutting out angels to buying gifts, you are the hands and feet of Christ.
