Dear Parents,
It's that time of year again, and the St. Paul School Board is putting together another brainstorming session. This second annual "Growing Our Successes" will be held on Thursday, May 8, at 7:00 pm. Our focus will be to talk about what is good about St. Paul School and then to discuss and brainstorm ideas to take us to the next level of greatness.
We need your help. If we are to make our school as great as it can be, we need communication. This is the forum in which parents can talk about the needs and wants for the children of our school. How can we address your child's needs? What do you think could be improved upon in the next year? What do we want to keep going and build stronger? These are the questions we'd like you to help us answer.
Discussions will be held in small groups and then a prioritizing vote time. That is when people will have the opportunity to choose the most important ideas to address in the coming year. Please join us for this important session.
Thank you for your part in making St. Paul the best school around!
Sincerely,
The St. Paul School Board

Just a reminder that this month's Featured Fundraiser is Campbell's Labels for Education. Please note that we only need the UPC CODE, not the front label. This is a great way for us to earn educational products for our school. For a list of eligible products you may visit the website: www.labelsforeducation.com.
Year-to-date SCRIP profits for Home & School are approximately $3000. In addition to these profits, there is just over $3000 going back to families as tuition credits. We have exceeded our earnings from last year but are shy of our goal of $4000. We have a little time left, so let's make a big push. As we are all paying more at the pump and grocery store, why not use SCRIP and actually get money back! Please see today's SCRIP NEWS and Order Form for more information.

Congratulations to the Second Grade for collecting 562 Milk Caps. Wow!! Seventh Grade came in second with 247 caps and Third Grade came in third with 165 caps. We collected a total of 1,508 Milk Caps. Thank you to everyone for saving (and cleaning!) milk caps throughout the school year. Please remember that the caps must have the Kemps or Foremost Farms fundraiser logo to qualify. We appreciate your support!
April's Featured Fundraiser will be Campbell's Label for Education. Please be sure to save the UPC CODE (they no longer accept the front label) from any participating Campbell Soup product. With this program we earn points and are able to obtain free educational merchandise. We just ordered two overhead projectors for classrooms with points that we have previously accumulated. This is just another easy way to earn funds/merchandise for our school. For eligible products you may visit their website at www.labelsforeducation.com.
Just a reminder that we do not need to save Pick n Save receipts; only Sentry receipts with the Funds for Friends sticker attached to it. With Pick n Save, just make sure that your Advantage Club Saver card has St. Paul's listed as the charity of choice (account number 805720).
Guest speaker, Dave Durand, will speak on the topic Brave Parenting: The Courage to Lead, this Sunday, April 13th following the 10:00am Mass. This is a Home & School sponsored event and we really hope you will take the time to attend. We feel this is a topic we may all benefit from in today's challenging society. Childcare will be available.
Don't forget about Friday's Father/Daughter dance, which begins at 6:30pm in the cafeteria. It's not too late to attend, just call Michele Varick. Glow Necklaces will be available for purchase at the dance for $1.00.

No School For Kindergarten Students
There will be no school for the Kindergarten class on Thursday, April 17 and Friday, April 18. Mrs. Comeau will be conducting screenings for the Kindergarten class of 2008-2009. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
Dear Parents,
I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable time with family over the Easter break. I am sure you will agree that we are all anxiously awaiting the nice weather and signs of spring to be present around us.
I was extremely proud of the children and families of St. Paul as we completed our Lenten journey together. The generosity of all our families was amazing. The final total raised for the Guatemala food program was $1,599.74. We received a beautiful thank-you note from the Heavenly Babies committee. They were thrilled with the number of items collected for this drive. Our Eighth graders did a wonderful job with the Passion Play this year. They even made the front page of the Index!
It is hard to believe that we are moving into the final quarter of the school year. I want to ask in advance for your continued support during this time. We always notice that some of our students begin to lack the motivation necessary to do quality work and complete assignments on time.
I know I speak for the teachers when I ask you to monitor your child/children's homework this final quarter.
We received the results of the WKCE and Iowa tests this week. The teachers and I were very pleased with the overall performance of our children. The faculty and I will be meeting to review the results of these tests so that any necessary enhancements to our curriculum can be made. The test results for students in grades 3, 5, 7, and 8 will be going home in the family folders next week.
The School Board is in the process of reviewing the budget for the 2008-2009 school year. We are very committed to do all we can to maintain the current programs in our school (including Spanish 5-8). We will be discussing the proposed budget at our School Board meeting on April 14th.
Please remember to mark your calendars for Thursday, May 8th at 6:30 PM. We will be holding our second Strategic Planning brainstorming session. This evening will be set aside to share ideas about the future growth of St. Paul School. It will give parents and teachers an opportunity to share ideas about our strengths as well as areas of improvement for St. Paul School.
I would like to thank the entire community of St. Paul School for all the support you have given over this past year. I look forward to the coming weeks with our students, faculty, and parents.

Many "Thanks" to all of the parents, students and faculty (Ms. Chadek, Mrs. Romanello, Mrs. Roteik, and Miss Wilhelmi) who worked last week's Fish Fry. We appreciate your continued support. Thank you also to everyone who provided a dessert (or two or three!).
If you have not turned in your Brewer ticket orders and would still like to do so, please contact Michele Varick at 968-2698 so that we can include you in our order. Tickets will be ordered over spring break, so this is your last chance. So far we have 80 people attending. We are looking forward to the game!
On Sunday, April 13th, 2008, following the 10:00am Mass, Home & School will be sponsoring guest speaker Dave Durand. The topic is "Brave Parenting: The Courage to Lead". Please see attached flyer for more details. We hope to see you there.
This month's Featured Fundraiser is Milk Caps, so please be sure to collect them all over spring break and return them to school on March 31st. Please also remember to enter the Box Tops Extreme Dream Sweepstakes daily over spring break. We could win 100,000 Bonus Box Tops! Just go to www.boxtops4education.com to enter.

Home & School would like to remind everyone that this month's Featured Fundraiser is the cell phone and inkjet recycle program. Please be sure to turn these items into the bin located in your child's classroom. Last year we earned $295 from this program. Let's try and increase our earnings this year. We exceeded our goal with Box Tops and we are confident that with your help, we will exceed our earnings again this year.
Home & School will be sponsoring our second Fish Fry of the year on Friday, March 14, 2008. This is a great opportunity for Home & School because we normally only sponsor one Fish Fry per year. Please see the attached flyer for areas where we will need your help. If you are unable to work, please considering bringing your friends and family to dine in or carry out. This is another fun, easy and delicious way to earn money for our school. With fundraisers such as these, we do not have to have our children out selling items or asking people for money. We appreciate whatever time and talent you have to offer!
Special Note: The Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring a day at Miller Park to support Catholic Schools on Saturday, May 10th (Brewers vs. Cardinals). They will donate $4.00 from every ticket to St. Paul School that we purchase. Home & School is very excited to participate in this outing. Please see the flyer in today's Newsletter for more details.

Lent
Dear Parents,
The season of lent has started and you can already see the school community of St. Paul working together to make positive changes in our lives, as well as in the lives of those around us. We have planned a number of different service projects and activities for Lent. I am hopeful that at the end of our forty-day journey we will all have made significant changes in our lives to become closer to God. I would like to share with you the activities that will be taking place during Lent.
Stations of the Cross - We will be praying the Stations of the Cross as a school on the following Friday's: February 15, 22, 29 and March 7& 14 at 2:30 in church. We invite you to join us.
Money for the Guatemala Food Program - As a school-wide service project for the people of Guatemala we will again be collecting money for their food program. We ask that each student help out in some way around the house to earn this money. We will start collecting this money on Monday, February 18th. Watch for the weekly totals of this collection on the bulletin board by the entrance to the school.
Grade 5 - Grade 8 Meal for Guatemala - The students in Grades 5 - 8 will eat a lunch that is served in Guatemala. We hope that this experience will bring about an awareness of those that our less fortunate and an appreciation for all we have. We will be collecting $2.00 for this meal and all proceeds will go to our Guatemala meal program collection. We will be sending home a permission slip with the date next week.
Passion Play - The Eighth Grade Class will present the passion play to the entire school on Wednesday, March 19th at 1:30 in the church. We invite you to join us.
Praying the Rosary - The children from St. Paul will be meeting with their Buddies on a weekly basis to say a decade of the rosary in church.
Layette Ministry Collection - This year our service project will be collecting items for the Layette Ministry of our parish. We are asking our children to earn these items by helping out in some way around the house. You can help the Layette Ministry by collecting any of the following items. They can be gently used items you no longer need or have purchased at rummage sale or thrift shop or new items you wish to donate.
- Onesies 0 to 1 year
- Sleepers and blanket sleepers
- Receiving blankets
- Crib blankets or afghans
- Towels and wash clothes
- Bibs
- Socks
- Snowsuits, jackets, sweaters, and caps
- Outfits up to 1 year
- Rattles and toys
- Board books
You can bring these items in to school starting Monday, February 18th and this drive will end Friday, March 14th.
During this season of Lent, I pray that we remember to take time to reflect on our lives and make the necessary changes to become better people. You will be in my thoughts and prayers this Lenten season.

Letter From The School Board
February 12, 2008
Dear Parents,
Our St. Paul School Board had its monthly meeting last night, and we had some exciting topics to discuss. We discussed the successful Catholic Schools Week, the continuing work of Anne Brockel on our Middle School rec. nights, and Home and School events that are coming up. We also talked about the discussions of the possible science lab that is being planned. There have been meetings going on with many interested parties, and the proposal is being developed. All of these items are positive conversations which make us proud to be members of the St. Paul school community.
We also began our budget discussions. This is a tough time to start these talks due to the fact that we don't have enough information, yet, about how much we will have to budget with. I know many of our parents are not familiar with the budget process and where our operating budget comes from. I know this because I had no idea until I joined the board, and I have been with our school since 1997. I imagine there are others who are in the same boat as I was.
Of course our budget comes in part from tuition. It also is supported in part by the parish. One thing many may not understand is the importance of family stewardship. When each of us enrolls our children at St. Paul, there is a standard stewardship amount each of us is supposed to pay annually. This is the stewardship amount that is placed on the book bill receipt in August. What school parents need to know is that anything the family pledges beyond that amount goes directly into our school budget. For example, if a family is required to give $468 for their annual stewardship, and they pledge on their stewardship card to give $1068, $600 will go right into the school budget.
I am writing to ask that those families, who have not turned in their stewardship cards for this year, please do so as soon as possible. I am also asking for other families to consider revising their stewardship amount knowing that the extra will help support the Catholic education of our children. In doing this, our budget will be much more accurate, and we will be able to predict what next year's budget will hold for our school.
In closing, I want to acknowledge that this is a time of transition, and we are not all comfortable in the face of change. It's important to remember that we can be support to each other, we are blessed with dedicated, knowledgeable teachers and that with each other we can continue to make St. Paul School a wonderful place to be a kid.
God Bless,
Beth McFadzen

Spanish Program - Grade 5-8
I am very sorry to have to notify you that Myriam McClellan our Spanish teacher resigned at the end of the semester. She is teaching Spanish for grades K-8 at St. Bruno's and is also employed at WCTC. Myriam took on the position here at St. Paul and was hesitant because of all the commitments she already had. She found that teaching at St. Paul was more than she could handle. I have been looking for a Spanish teacher to fill this spot and have been unable to do so. I have contacted Kettle Moraine, Waukesha, the after school Spanish Program, and all the principals at the Archdiocese with no success of finding a candidate. I am sorry to say that we will not be having Spanish in grades 5-8 second semester. Feel free to call the office if you have any questions.
"Catholic Schools Light the Way"
Dear Parents,
The community of St. Paul did an outstanding job showing that we are committed to our faith and lighting the way to show our community what a wonderful school St. Paul is. Catholic Schools Week is a time set aside each year to celebrate what makes Catholic education special. During this week, we focus on the high-quality, faith-filled education our school provides. The week started off with our children reading their class thank-you notes at all the masses. The children did a wonderful job and the parish community appreciated the recognition and the beautiful bookmarks that were handed out at the end of each mass. A big thank-you goes out to the moms/families that set-up the tables in the gathering space that highlighted the various programs we offer at St. Paul. Ms. Heiman spent many hours developing the video that showed the activities that take place throughout our school year and the values we integrate in our daily curriculum.
This week was also a time to recognize and honor all the people that make Catholic education possible for our children. The children made cards, and gift baskets were given to Fr. Ralph, Deacon Larry, and Peggy Kolonko for the guidance they give us to live our faith. We also recognized all the community helpers that contribute to St. Paul School. Our wonderful Home & School representatives planned a week of daily recognition for our teachers, staff, and maintenance crew. I know the faculty will agree that we were given many thoughtful gifts of appreciation. The week ended with our annual talent show that truly expresses the "gifts" our children have been given. Lastly, our outstanding teachers were given notes/gifts of appreciation from their students. We are so fortunate to have a faculty that gives countless hours in and outside of school to make an impact in your child/children's life.
I realize that St. Paul School is experiencing some changes in the coming school year, but I am so confident that we have a school community that is strong both academically and spiritually. I know that St. Paul will continue to provide an environment that nurtures each child to live their faith and recognize the values that are important to live a life like Jesus. I pray each
night that we will trust in God and continue to support our school, children,
parents, and faculty. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Celebrate Catholic Schools Week!
January 27 - February 2
This time each year, during Catholic Schools Week, we celebrate what makes Catholic education special, and honor those who contribute to our school's excellence. This year's Catholic Schools Week theme is "Catholic Schools Light the Way". How true! Do they ever!
Catholic schools instill in young people the Christian values our world so desperately needs. The teachers and staff lead by example each and every day by living their faith, through their words and actions, both in and outside of the classroom. If you want your child's education to reflect your faith and values, I encourage you to consider a Catholic school. Your choice will send the message that you value an education that is grounded in the Gospel Message - a message that is woven into every aspect of the school day - from the curriculum to spiritual formation to extracurricular activities. Christ's presence is evident in our Catholic schools.
It is also no secret that Catholic schools offer a comprehensive, rigorous curriculum. Teachers set high expectations for academic excellence and achieve it, which is evidenced by a 99% graduation rate and the fact that 96% of Catholic secondary students go on to pursue higher education. Catholic schools are safe, supportive, and are a place where teachers and parents work together for the benefit of each child.
Visit a Catholic school and spend time with the staff, students and parents. I know you will discover the Catholic school advantage. God bless you and your family as you consider this important decision for your child.
Faithfully in Christ Most Reverend Timothy M. Dolan

New Baskets In The Gym!
Thanks to Matt Zach, Steve Strelka, Terry Reno, Dave Haluska, Mike Croal, Pat Connell and Larry Brockel who labored many hours this past Friday evening installing two new basketball baskets in our gym. The new baskets have been a goal of the St. Paul Athletic Association for several years. They will be used by our basketball teams to become more proficient in their shooting and by all school children in gym class. Thanks to the families who donated the additional monies needed to make this dream a reality.
New padding has also been installed on the two main baskets. Helpers in that project were: John Kavan, Ed Gehl and Larry Brockel. Thanks for your hard work, time and effort.

Speaker: Raymond A. Gallope, Ph.D.
North Shore Center, L.L.C.
Topic: Friendships and Other Peer Relationships
What's A Parent To Do??

New Parish Family Tours
Our beautiful new church seems to be attracting many new families to join our Parish. To ensure each family, regardless of their children's age, gets a tour of our new church, PLC and the school, I would like to have a group of volunteers who would take turns giving a tour, after a new family meets with Fr. Bob. This would not take much of your time and is a great way to meet new people within our Parish. I will have information for you to talk about, so if you're not an expert of the school/church, that's OK. Please consider this, as our Parish members are the most likely to consider our school and are currently not receiving a tour, due to Parish staff time restraints. Thank You. Contact Robin Gedney 305-4556.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to work the Fish Fry. From baking to clean up, the Fish Fry could not run without wonderful volunteers like you. We had a nice crowd, serving approximately 600 fish fries. We are very fortunate to have the Fish Fry as one of our fundraisers. We appreciate of your support!
If you are interested in purchasing a St. Paul water bottle, they are available in the school office. The cost is $3.00. Also, if you purchased a water bottle on book bill day, we have a new lid for you (without a straw). You may pick it up in the school office.
K-4 Update
Before we can move forward with developing and implementing the program we need to close the funding gap. As a result of the funding restrictions set by the Parrish, we have found the Employer Charitable Gift Matching to be our best way to raise these funds. Please return your Employer Info Sheet, and consider using this program if it is available to you. Within the next month we will have to look at the funds available and make the decision whether or not to move forward with this K-4 Program.
Marketing Committee Needs You!
This is an important time for our school to aggressively market ourselves - sharing what makes St. Paul School such a special place, leveraging our new church and increasing our enrollment. Please join Robin Gedney and Andrea Dedrick as we try to do just that! We will get together to brainstorm and implement ideas. Being on this committee will not require a large time commitment. We are planning a meeting in the next couple of weeks. More information on that will follow. If you are interested, please contact either of us through the school. YOU have an opportunity to make a difference!

School Board News
Happy Fall! Our St. Paul School Board had its second meeting of the school year on Monday October 8, 2007 and we had some healthy discussions about how to make sure we are doing the best we can do. One point of interest was our discussion about uniform/casual dress on Wednesdays. There are valid opinions on both sides. Many feel that our students should wear uniforms on these days, yet others disagree. Our board has heard from only a handful of parents on this issue, but we would like to hear from more of you about what you think about this. Please let Linda Cooney know what you think… Uniforms on half-days or Casual on half-days. Email this information to her, lcooney@stpaulgenesee.net, and the school board will take your opinions under consideration when we vote on it at the next meeting.
I would also like to take this opportunity to ask you all a favor. Our school marketing committee is hard at work trying to find ways to get folks interested in enrolling their children at St Paul School . We all know that advertising is wonderful, but many don't know the power of "Word of Mouth" advertising. We all enrolled our children in St Paul to receive the fine education they are getting. We, as parents, can be a powerful advertisement for the school. Spread the word and let others know the great things that happen at our school. Tell them about the buddy program that connects middle schoolers with senior citizens, or that our students are in the tops for the IOWA basics testing. We are working toward delivering curriculum in a multi-sensory and differentiated fashion, and our teachers attend professional development classes at their own expense simply to "stay current". I guess I am asking you to spread our "good news" just as Father Bob asks us to go out and do the same. If you have any ideas or thoughts about marketing our school please let our board members know. Board members Robin Gedney and Andrea Dedrick are looking for some dedicated folks who could help out with either time or talents to make it known that St. Paul School is "top notch."
Finally, our school board needs to hear from you. If you have a concern or a comment please contact me or another board member, and the board will be able to put you or your concern on our agenda. We want our parents to feel that this board is also THEIR board and that you can broach the hard subjects with us. As I so often tell people at work, "If I don't know there is a problem, I can't help to fix it." If there is a problem, the board wants to know about it, and we want to help to address it. Feel free to contact me at 262-968-9083 or better yet bpmc90@wi.rr.com. I look forward to this exciting time of our parish life and our children's school careers. Let's make it a fantastic time to be a kid at St. Paul School. We can do it if we do it together.

The Home & School sponsored Ice Cream Social is this evening from 6:30-7:30pm. Please be sure to shop the Book Fair and then come down to the cafeteria for an ice cream treat. We look forward to seeing you there!
Tomorrow evening is the Home & School Fish Fry. If you have volunteered to work, please be sure to show up at your designated time. We thought it would be nice to have our school volunteers wear St. Paul spirit wear to the Fish Fry. It would be a nice way to show our school pride and spirit. Don't worry if you do not have spirit wear, we'll still take your help! We could use a few more people on the clean up crew, so if you are able to help in this area, please arrive at 7:30pm. Desserts may be dropped off in the cafeteria any time before 4:00pm on Friday. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to work and bake. If you are unable to work, we hope your are able to come and enjoy one of the best fish fries around!
SCRIP will be available for purchase next Wednesday, October 17th after school (12:15 dismissal) in the Library. We will try and do this on each early dismissal day. We hope this will encourage more people to use SCRIP. Please keep in mind that SCRIP is this month's Featured Fundraiser. Let's get that thermometer moving!!
Thank you to Jane Sundheim, Paul Sundheim and Matt Zahn for painting the lines for the playground games. The children have really been enjoying their recess time.

Next Friday is the Home & School Fish Fry. We are still in need of volunteers in all areas, especially clean-up and baking desserts. It is very important that we provide a full crew for the Fish Fry. Please consider donating your time. Be sure to invite your family and friends to enjoy one of the best fish fries around!
The Featured Fundraiser for the month of October is SCRIP. The classroom with the most SCRIP orders will receive a complimentary lunch and a casual day. There are two cycles this month, so each time you order, your child's class will receive credit. If you have more than one child, each child's classroom will receive credit. We are setting a goal of $4000 this year for SCRIP profits. Last year's profit was $2800. This is a great fundraiser and we really hope to get everyone involved. Help us reach our goal by placing an order today.
Mark your calendars for the Home & School sponsored Ice Cream Social on Thursday, October 11th. See attached flyer for more information. Hope to see you there!

Home & School
Home & School would like to welcome everyone back to the 2007-2008 school year. We look forward to working with parents, students and staff in assisting in the Catholic education of our children.
Over the summer, Home & School was able to purchase items for our playground, thanks to all of your fundraising efforts. Items such as jump ropes, kick balls and skip-its have been distributed to the classrooms (yes, we even replaced the basketball nets!). We have also purchased bases for the baseball field and soccer goals. We had hoped to install the new swing set last week, but due to the ground being too saturated, we had to post-pone installation to this coming weekend. Please pray for good weather! We have also replaced the school entry door. There are now two doors that open, making entering and exiting much safer. The project is not complete yet, so please bear with the construction.
St. Paul water bottles are available for purchase in the school office. If you are interested, the cost is $3.00 each.
Home & School will continue monthly Featured Fundraisers. You will receive the Home & School Handbook shortly, which will give you a schedule of the Featured Fundraisers.
For September, we will feature the Pick'n Save We Care program. With every purchase you make with your Advantage Plus Savers Card, Pick'n Save will pay St. Paul's a cash rebate. Please be sure that your Advantage Card is registered with St. Paul's as your charity of choice. Our account number is 805720. You may do this at the customer service counter at any area Pick'n Save. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to name St. Paul's as your charity choice.
We would like to include any family owned businesses and student services to the Home & School Handbook. If you are interested in having your business/service included, please complete and return the attached form to the school office by September 11th.
Just a reminder that if you have not paid your Home & School Dues, please be sure to send payments to the school office. We appreciate your support!
The first Home & School meeting will be Tuesday, September 11th at 1:45 in the galleria. All school families are welcome to join us for our meetings. We are always open to new ideas and ways to continue the spiritual and educational forces of the home and school.

Dear Parents,
Children need healthy meals to learn. St. Paul's offers healthy meals every school day. The cost of the hot lunch program at St. Paul's school is $11.25 per week or $2.25 per day. Your children may qualify for free or reduced price meals. To apply for free or reduced priced meals use the FREE AND REDUCED PRICE APPLICATION, which is attached. If you have any questions, please call the school office at 968-3175.
Here are answers to questions you may have about applying:
1. Do I need to fill out an application for each child? No. Complete the application to apply for free or reduced price meals. Use one Free and Reduced Price School Meals Application for all students in your household. We cannot approve an application that is not complete, so be sure to fill out all required information. Return the completed application to the school office.
2. Who can get free meals? Children in households getting FoodShare or W-2 cash benefits and most foster children can get free meals regardless of your income. Also, your children can get free price meals if your household income is within the free limits on the Federal Income Guidelines.
3. Who can get reduced price meals? Your children can get low cost meals if your household income is within the reduced price limits on the Federal Income Chart, shown on this application.
4. Should I fill out an application if I got a letter this school year saying my children are approved for free or reduced price meals? Please read the letter you got carefully and follow the instructions. Call the school at 968-3175 if you have questions.
5. I get WIC. Can my child(ren) get free meals? Children in households participating in WIC may be eligible for free or reduced price meals. Please fill out an application.
6. Will the information I give be checked? Yes, we may ask you to send written proof.
7. If I don't qualify now, may I apply later? Yes. You may apply at any time during the school year if your household size goes up, income goes down, or if you start getting FoodShare, W-2 cash benefits or other benefits. If you lose your job, your children may be able to get free or reduced price meals.
8. What if I disagree with the school's decision about my application? You should talk to school officials. You also may ask for a hearing by calling or writing to Linda Cooney, 968-3175 ext. 211.
9. May I apply if someone in my household is not a U.S. citizen? Yes. You or your child(ren) do not have to be a U.S. citizen to qualify for free or reduced price meals.
10. Who should I include as members of my household? You must include all people living in your household, related or not (such as grandparents, other relatives, or friends). You must include yourself and all children who live with you.
11. What if my income is not always the same? List the amount that you normally get. For example, if you normally get $1000 each month, but you missed some work last month and only got $900, put down that you get $1000 per month. If you normally get overtime, include it, but not if you get it only sometimes.
12. We are in the military, do we include our housing allowance as income? If your housing is part of the Military Housing Privatization Initiative, do not include your housing allowance as income. All other allowances must be included in your gross income.
Sincerely,
Linda Cooney, Principal

Dear St. Paul School Parents,
We hope you are enjoying a healthy, safe summer. The St. Paul School Board has met, and we are already working on plans for the fall of 2007. We are excited about this school year as it will bring lots of positive changes to our school.
Many of you may not understand the impact of the surveys we send out in the winter, but this is a tool the board uses to develop action plans for the school. The data that your family provides us with is what we use as a board to make the hard decisions.
Our school board has had to struggle with some extremely difficult decisions this past spring, and due to enrollment and budgetary constraints, we had to come up with a fiscally sound plan. In April we did reintroduce an art teacher to the faculty of St. Paul's which came up in the parent surveys as a large area of interest. We also had to make some very difficult decisions about Spanish, which was also an item of concern in the surveys.
After our brainstorming session in May, it was evident that many St. Paul families truly wanted to keep Spanish in our building. Our board then had the task of finding a way to fund it. As it turned out, we were able to find funding to provide foreign language to our 5th through 8th graders. We then voted to return Spanish in that capacity. Because of that we will no longer be able to fund a guidance program. We also realize that many families will be perplexed by this decision. Please be assured that our board is aware, and we are working on developing a program for Character Development which can be delivered in the classroom.
We understand that there will be many folks who really wanted their children in the primary grades to have some exposure to Spanish, however at this time our funds are limited. There is an alternative, however, and our new board member Robin Gedney has been instrumental in organizing an after school Spanish program which will be funded by the interested families. Information on this program will be available on book bill day on August 23.
In closing, the St. Paul's School Board values your opinion and your input. We are pleased with the turn-out at the brainstorming session we had in May, and we are also pleased with the fact that we have parents coming to our meetings and offering input. We look forward to working with you and the wonderful faculty of St. Paul School to make our school an exceptional place for children to learn.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact a board member. We are willing to discuss things with all concerned parties.
Thank you for your support.
St. Paul School Board
