An Invitation To Grow In Faith

Growth in faith is a life-long process. While we may not always be aware of it, many of our life experiences affect our understanding of ourselves, our loved ones, the world in which we live, and yes, our understanding of God and how God is present in our world.

One of my tasks at St. Paul's is to help adults reflect on some of those life experiences - the Baptism of a child, preparation of a child for other sacraments, a change in lifestyle - and in the process deepen their relationship with Christ and with the parish community.

Faith formation also involves learning. This often happens through listening, reading, and discussing our beliefs with others who are experiencing new challenges to their spiritual growth. At St. Paul's several small groups meet regularly to study the Scriptures and share their faith.

Many adults find they grow in their faith as they participate in the life of the parish by serving on committees or the parish council, or teaching children in our Christian formation program. Others experience spiritual growth as they assist with St. Paul's many social outreach and human concerns activities.

Preparation for Baptism
Parents-to-be who are expecting their first baby and who are choosing Baptism for their child are invited to attend two sessions of preparation. Infant baptisms are normally celebrated after the 10:00 AM Mass on the second Sunday of the month and during the 10:00 AM Mass on the fourth Sunday of the month. Babies are baptized by immersion unless special circumstances deem otherwise. For pastoral reasons other arrangements can be made. Baptisms during the 5:00 PM Saturday Evening Mass and the 8:00 AM Sunday Mass are encouraged, to give the Assemblies at those liturgies the opportunity to celebrate baptism as well.

Parents who have already had one child baptized are invited to attend one session. They are normally held on the third Monday evening of the month in November, January, March, May and July.

Adult Confirmation
Adults who are baptized Catholic and have not been confirmed can receive preparation for the sacrament and be confirmed by the Archbishop or Bishop at St. John's Cathedral, Milwaukee along with candidates from throughout the archdiocese.
